Welcome to the Career Economy!
This is going to be a really short newsletter.
The market created 200,000+ jobs last month, and in the past six weeks, I’ve had over $4M in job offers and negotiated salaries come across my desk.
What else do you need to know?

As if I could be that short-winded. 🤷🏻♀️

We typically anticipate a summer slump this time of year. The pace of hiring slows (as if the snails could move any slower right now!), available roles take a dip, and communication lags while everyone and their mother is on vacation.
Not this summer.
Of the almost 20 clients who secured new roles over the past six weeks, almost half of them were LAST WEEK, and that doesn’t even account for all the clients who are in active interview processes that had them talking to hiring managers on July 3rd.
This is just about as weird as that November when I had people interviewing on the day before Thanksgiving, but hey – I’m not going to ask questions. I’m just going to help you across the finish line now that the race seems to be afoot! 😀
But, wait. There’s more.
The cherry on top of this sundae is that all of these roles are technology-related.
Hoorah!
It’s so nice to see a bunch of software engineers, engineering managers, and technical professionals land roles after long, arduous job searches.
The planning, the persistence, and the patience have finally paid off for many job seekers who have pushed (more like slogged) for close to six months, and I couldn’t be happier for them.
I also noticed an interesting commonality among these success stories: the fit level of the roles they’ve all landed is extremely high.
First, I should recognize that an element of our coaching is to help you find a job that’s a great fit, but in a tough market, it can be hard to find a role that checks enough (or the right) boxes. Oddly enough, the tight hiring scene right now seems to be perpetuating good matches, so while you’ll likely go through more interviews than you ever have before, you’ll end up with a role and employer that are really strong matches.
I’m going to call that a silver lining in this picture!
On the tactical side, networking remains the name of the game, and the overall length of a job search is still four to six months. So, while things are moving, don’t expect everything to revert back to the 2022 hiring frenzy overnight.
Job search strategy, networking, and up-leveling your interview skills are necessary essentials for all professionals, even software professionals used to being plucked out of LinkedIn.
Learning how to conduct a proactive, consistent job search now will be an asset to your professional development in the future.
Don’t leave it up to chance; you have control over your future. And if you exercise it, you may be part of the next wave of millions in salaries I get to have fun negotiating. 🤑🥳
