March Career News

March 2022 Career News

We’re rounding out Q1 of 2022. How did we get here? I’m still wondering where April 2020 went! Regardless, I’m quite happy we’ve arrived at this point in time because we’re going to kick off this monthly market update with some C.E.L.E.B.R.A.T.I.N.G!

The past month has seen some pretty incredible outcomes for clients across a range of levels, industries, and roles. Twenty-two, twenty-two! tenacious job seekers landed new roles since our last update! That’s, like, one job per business day…I’ll take it!

And, there are some serious wins in this lineup: Apple, Twilio, Data Dog, Qualtrics, CITI, Oracle, USGS, Amplify, and Dovetail in New Zealand (we’ve gone GLOBAL) are some of my favorites.

Whether you need the encouragement to keep at it, or you want some inspiration to get out there and see what you’re worth, these engineering executives, product managers, strategic program managers, sales executives, account managers, and heads of product are a testament to the strength of the market!

–> We’re also super excited to announce that one of our inaugural participants in the Job Search Mastery Course also landed a new position! How sweet is it to see that online resource working the way we intended as well. Woot!

Now for the regularly scheduled month-in-review based on real market analysis and labor statistics, and not just Angie’s little bubble.

I was reading this report by Workable, and something really interesting popped out at me. The Time to Fill, a stat recruiters track to evaluate the length of time it takes for a position to fill once the req is open and posted, TANKED this quarter.

Typically, hiring stats taking a dip isn’t a good thing, but in this case it is! This means companies are moving people through interviews faster and more efficiently, taking less time to court and more time to get-‘er-done. If you’re looking to make a swift exit from your current role, this is good news for you!

Don’t get me wrong, you’ll still go through 12 interviews, do 17 homework assignments, and send 12,000 emails to the recruiters, but you’ll run that gauntlet FAST!

The number of job openings continues to rise, 14%+ in January and 17%+ last month, which perfectly aligns with what I’ve seen in the market – February and March have seen stronger hiring than January.

Aaaaaand, finally – the candidates per hire has also gone down. Does this mean the market is LESS competitive? Hmmm, there’s only one way to find out!

Get out there and see for yourself, oh, and let me know how I can help.

Happy (job) hunting!

Your Friend and Coach,

Angie
