Sunday Scaries from the Struggle Bus 🚌

I’ll be honest with you: this one almost didn’t happen.

Well… that’s not entirely true. It was always going to happen — it just wasn’t easy to make happen.

Not because I don’t care.
Not because I don’t have ideas.

But because I sat down to write it, stared at my screen, and realized the theme I thought I had… wasn’t coming together.

😮 In case you didn’t know, I usually write these in real time.

Sometimes the day of. Sometimes the day before. Very rarely, weeks in advance. Which means you’re pretty much getting in-the-moment Angie rambles at any given time.

This weekend, that version of me was riding the struggle bus.

Here’s how it unfolded — and what this week reminded me about Sunday Scaries, listening sooner, and why forcing clarity never works.

1️⃣ The Plan Looked Solid (Until It Didn’t)

I had a whole plan for this edition.

Cute dog photo.
Fun theme.
Seven tidy lessons.

On paper? Excellent.
In practice? Absolutely not.

😵‍💫 You can thank Jim for this real-time photo of me at my desk, coffee getting cold, complaining about how the theme just wasn’t coming together.

“Well, then that’s your theme.”

Thanks, Jim. Thanks.

💡 Lesson: Pivoting when you meet resistance isn’t failure; it’s you adapting to the situation.

2️⃣ Forcing It Is a Dead Giveaway

How many times have you tried to force an idea just because it was the original plan?

You were committed. So you push. Rewrite. Reorganize. Re-strategize. Until suddenly, the thing you were trying to save is actually getting worse.

Yeah, that’s an obvious cue our stubbornness likes to miss.

💡 Lesson: If you have to muscle the message, it probably isn’t the right one.

3️⃣ The Body Always Knows First

So, why am I on the struggle bus today, you ask?

🧀 Cheese.

I knowingly went three rounds with a cheese display I had no business engaging with. Lactose intolerance, you may be guessing.

Nope. Just my special flavor of celiac disease that, in addition to gluten, reacts to the protein in A1 casein too.

Yes, I am a delight at cocktail parties.

I don’t know what’s better, a cheese hangover or a legit one. 🍹

💡 Lesson: When your body taps out, your brain usually follows.

4️⃣ Powering Through Is an Old Reflex (Not a Smart One)

There’s only so much white-knuckling you can do when you’re not actually okay.

Pushing through fatigue, brain fog, or resistance doesn’t make you disciplined — it usually just delays the inevitable crash.

Sometimes the most productive move is doing less, sooner.

💡 Lesson: Just because you can push through doesn’t mean you should.

5️⃣ Sometimes You Need an Outside Mirror

And yet again, Thanks, Jim. Thanks.

He walked by my desk, took one look at the chaos (both literal and internal), listened to me ramble for thirty seconds, and said:

“Why don’t you just write about the struggle bus?”

Then he snapped this picture.

Authenticity at its finest. Couldn’t have manufactured a better theme if I tried.

💡 Lesson: Sometimes an outside perspective is all you need.

6️⃣ Authenticity Beats a Perfect Theme Every Time

I didn’t plan to write about cheese-induced misery, creative resistance, or the fact that sometimes I don’t have it together.

But, since the Sunday Scaries have never been about perfection. I figured Jim was on to something when he suggested I just go the honest route and give it to you straight up.

Hoodie, messy desk, four-degree temps, and all.

This is the work.
This is the practice.
This is why it resonates.

💡 Lesson: Honesty connects faster than polish ever will.

7️⃣ The Sunday Scaries Aren’t Asking for Brilliance — Just Attention

This week’s Sunday Scaries weren’t about work.
Or dogs.
Or Monday.

As you know, they never are.

This is about listening to yourself. Paying attention sooner instead of powering through. Noticing what’s off before it turns into something bigger, badder, and tougher to handle.

💡 Lesson: You are human. Sometimes that’s the whole assignment.

If you’re feeling similarly unpolished, well…that’s just how Sundays go.

Here’s to listening earlier, resting when needed, and letting things come together when they’re ready — not when we force them.

Time for some football, wallpapering a basement, and running away from cheese for this girl.

Your Friend and Coach,
Angie
